

The 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related meetings began in Geneva, with the participation of a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by Speaker of the Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh.
The event brought together heads of parliaments from around the world, hundreds of parliamentarians, and numerous representatives of international organizations.
The assembly’s main theme for its 151st session focuses on “Upholding Humanitarian Standards and Supporting Humanitarian Action in Times of Crisis.” The four standing committees of the IPU also discussed topics on their respective agendas, in addition to deliberating on the session’s central theme.
On the sidelines of the general assembly, Al Al-Sheikh met with President of the Jordanian Senate Faisal Al-Fayez, President of the Moroccan House of Councillors Mohamed Ould Errachid, and Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Sadiq.
As part of the accompanying meetings, Secretary-General of the Saudi Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil Al-Mutairi participated in the meeting of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, while several Shura Council members took part in the meetings of the IPU’s four standing committees: the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs, the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security, the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, and the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.
Al Al-Sheikh also chaired the coordination meeting of the Arab Group at the level of parliament speakers, held on the sidelines of the assembly.
