The Arab Parliament called for the necessity of providing a legal environment and mobilizing Arab parliamentary and legal efforts to address all forms of violence against women.

This came in a statement issued by the Arab Parliament today, after the meeting of the Chairperson of the permanent committee for social, educational, cultural affairs, women and youths of the Arab Parliament Dr. Mastoura Al-Shammari, and Member of Parliament, Representative Amira Sharaf El-Din, with the Women Empowerment and Gender Working Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, within the framework of the visit of the Arab Parliament delegation to Geneva.

The statement indicated that the meeting discussed the establishment of an institutional mechanism for communication between women parliamentarians in the Arab Parliament, the Arab Women Parliamentarians Forum, and the Women Parliamentarians Forum of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to participate in the priority issues for both sides, foremost among which is empowering women and protecting them from violence in all its forms, and cooperating to build success stories and models for Arab women, especially in the parliamentary field.
