Saudi Arabia supports United Nations Alliance of Civilizations with USD1 million

Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallimi, today delivered at the United Nations Headquarters, a check in the amount of one million US dollars in support by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the plan of action, activities and programs of the United Nations Office for the Alliance of Civilizations.

This came during a meeting with High Representative of the Alliance ofCivilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos.

At the outset of the meeting, the ambassador conveyed the greetings ofPrince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs,confirming the kingdom's appreciation of the important role played by theUnited Nations Alliance of Civilizations, and its efforts in spreading aculture of peace and tolerance, strengthening the role of multiple andpreventive diplomacy, and protecting religious sites, at a time when the world hasan urgent need to establish the values of coexistence and build bridges ofpeace in light of the escalating violence that we are witnessing, the spread ofhate speeches, and interference in the internal affairs of countries, and thespread of sectarian ideas.

For his part, the High Representative commended the great role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in spreading the message of peace and love and its call for coexistence and rejection of hatred and violence, especially in light of the great social renaissance witnessed by the Kingdom today that reflects the moderate Islam and the tolerance, moderation and respect for all religions and cultures.

The support that the Kingdom provided today to the Alliance of Civilizations comes as a part of the $ 3 million Saudi Arabia pledged to provide in support of the plan of action, activities and programs of the United Nations Office for the Alliance of Civilizations over the next three years.
