G20 Development Working Group hold First Meeting

The G20 Development Working Group (DWG) began its official activities on December 10 and 11, 2019 in Riyadh, kicking off its first meeting under the Saudi G20 Presidency.

During the two-day meeting, delegates from the membercountries, invited guest countries, as well as regional and internationalorganizations, discussed the challenges of development with a cooperative perspective.

Working Group chair, Haifa A. Al-Mogrin, highlighted to theattendees the importance of development and equal growth of the nations.

The co-chairs—Japan, Italy, India, and SouthAfrica—presented the main priorities of the working group and conductedsessions on financing sustainable development, regional infrastructureconnectivity, and accountability framework on G20's development commitments.

Committed to having an inclusive approach, the DWG invitedthe C20, T20, U20, W20 and Y20 Engagement Groups to attend along withrepresentatives from the Infrastructure and Anti-Corruption Working Group topresent their work programs and identify potential collaboration.

Preceding the DWG meeting, the DWG organized the South-South and Triangular Cooperation forum to address development challenges with an effective, inclusive and horizontal approach to share knowledge, lessons learned and advance the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
