The General Court of Audit (GCA), represented by the Saudi Center for Financial and Performance Audit (SCFPA), held its 20th annual symposium in Riyadh under the theme “The Role of Auditing in Enhancing the Efficiency and Effectiveness of the Public Sector.”

The event gathered dignitaries and more than 450 leaders and specialists from government financial departments, as well as leaders of supreme audit institutions worldwide and experts from related international organizations, according to the press release issued by the GCA today.

GCA President Dr. Hussam bin Abdulmohsen Alangari emphasized the importance of the symposium in addressing contemporary topics in auditing and accounting for more than twenty years.

He noted that the symposium’s recommendations have helped entrench transparency and governance in public-sector auditing in line with global best practices.

He also highlighted the role of supreme audit institutions in enhancing public-sector performance and increasing efficiency and effectiveness in dealing with changes, serving as partners that contribute to developing solutions and as trusted advisors who support improvement and better performance.

The first panel discussion, “Enhancing Accountability and Transparency in the Public Sector,” featured local and international experts who underlined the role of financial and compliance auditing as independent tools that promote transparency and accountability. Speakers emphasized the importance of an effective regulatory environment and strong communication mechanisms to support continuous follow-up in the public sector. They also reviewed international best practices of supreme audit institutions in tracking audit recommendations and building auditing capacity.

The second panel, “The Impact of Performance Auditing in the Public Sector,” brought together officials who shared local and international experiences.

They discussed performance auditing as a strategic tool that supports decision-making by turning audit results into sustainable development practices, guiding public policies toward tangible impact, and improving service quality.

Speakers also addressed the role of proactive auditing in crisis response, risk anticipation, and building an institutional culture of learning and continuous improvement.

On the sidelines of the symposium, GCA held an accompanying exhibition showcasing modern trends in auditing, with the participation of the National Center for Performance Measurement (ADAA) and SCFPA.

The symposium concluded with recommendations that contribute to shaping the future of the auditing profession, delivering added value to public-sector accounting and auditing, and keeping pace with emerging trends in financial and performance auditing at the local and international levels.
