Today, Monday, the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh (SCC); issued a sentence of 5 years and 8 months in prison against Loujain Alhathloul; who was proven to be involved in a number of criminal activities.
The court convicted, Loujain Alhathloul; by committing acts criminalized under Article 43 of the Law on Combating Terrorism Crimes and Its Financing; such as instigating a coup d'état in Saudi Arabia; seeking to serve a foreign agenda inside the Kingdom using the internet. This is with the aim of harming public order. Besides, cooperating with a number of individuals and entities; which committed criminal acts under the law on combating terrorism crimes and its financing.
The judge of the court said that Loujain Alhathloul confessed to committing the charges against her. The prosecution recorded her confessions voluntarily without coercion, and that she had not proven otherwise than what the accused had claimed in previous sessions.
The court ruling in the case included a stay of execution of two years and 10 months of the sentence imposed on the convict. Reclaiming her condition and paving the way for her not to return to committing crimes, and if she commits any crime within the next three years; The stay of execution will be deemed canceled.
The court's decision included the application of the accessory penalty stipulated in Article 53 of the Law on Combating Terrorism Crimes and Its Financing. In addition to the confiscation of electronic devices and media referred to in the seizure records and technical reports that the defendant used in committing her crimes.
The judge stated to the public prosecutor; and the defendant that they can object to the judgment in an appeal or an audit. This is during the statutory period for that; which is 30 days, starting from the day following the day of the delivery of the judgment.
