More than 33.92 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,011,034 have died, according to a Reuters tally.
India's coronavirus case tally increased by 86,821 in the last 24 hours to 6.31 million by Thursday morning, data from the health ministry showed, as the country eased more restrictions to combat the economic hit from the pandemic. Deaths from coronavirus infections rose by 1,181 to 98,678, the ministry said.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 2,503 to 291,722, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Thursday. The reported death toll rose by 12 to 9,500, the tally showed.
Russia confirmed its highest daily tally of new coronavirus cases since June 12 on Thursday as authorities reported 8,945 new infections, pushing the national total to 1,185,231. The capital of Moscow, the epicentre of the outbreak earlier this year, registered 2,424 new cases overnight, officials said. Authorities said 169 people had died nationwide in the last 24 hours, bringing the official death toll to 20,891.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
