Iranian president says now is the best time for an agreement

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said now is the best time for an agreement, citing the country's unity, strength, and cohesion. He noted that current conditions present an opportunity to continue the path toward an agreement and resolve issues through dialogue.

Pezeshkian added, according to Al Jazeera, "Problems cannot be solved by war alone, and we seek to pursue peace based on the terms of the memorandum of understanding with the United States."

He stressed that Iran will continue negotiations as long as the other side does; if there is no progress, Iran will not accept their demands.

Earlier today, Iran said it was close to reaching an agreement with Oman on controlling the Strait of Hormuz, but noted this would not be sufficient to reopen the waterway.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran and Oman are "very close" to agreeing on a new navigation route through the Strait of Hormuz, but reopening the strait depends on other conditions, including compensation from the United States to Iran.

Meanwhile, a US official told Al Arabiya yesterday that Washington expects an agreement soon between Iran and Oman, which both border the strait, allowing oil shipments to resume normal operations.

The agreement between the two countries on control of the strategic waterway is seen as crucial for reaching a broader deal to end the conflict that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
