Iran’s Revolutionary Guard downs US MQ-1 drone over Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it had shot down a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz after it was intercepted by Iranian air defense systems.

A statement from the Revolutionary Guard confirmed the drone belonged to the US military and was destroyed in the skies above the strait.

In a related development, the Iranian military reported that its air defenses downed an advanced Orbiter reconnaissance drone on Sunday evening, also over the Strait of Hormuz.

The Revolutionary Guard’s public relations statement said air defenses detected and targeted the drone after it entered Iranian airspace and failed to respond to warnings, adding that the aircraft was on a reconnaissance mission in the area.
