US president accuses Iran of killing citizens, urges end to crisis

US President Donald Trump has said that Iran is unable to pay the salaries of large segments of its military.

Trump added on his Truth Social account that Iran is killing its own citizens, even in the absence of protests and at unprecedented levels, calling for an immediate end to what he described as a humanitarian crisis.

Earlier today, The Wall Street Journal quoted the White House as saying that President Donald Trump has completely destroyed Iran's military and nuclear facilities, and is now preparing to crush the Iranian economy to ensure Tehran's compliance.

According to the newspaper, as reported by Al Jazeera, the White House spokesperson affirmed that "it would be wise for Iran to reach an immediate agreement, otherwise it is well aware of the serious consequences of refusing to do so."

The Wall Street Journal also revealed, citing US officials, that Vice President J.D. Vance had explained to Trump before the military confrontation that Iran could have abandoned its nuclear program through direct negotiations, placing full responsibility for the recent escalation on Iran's position.

Iran had vowed to respond to expanded US economic sanctions, which Washington said would cut off the Islamic Republic's economic lifeline, expressing confidence that its main trading partners would resist the US pressure campaign.
