Trump says Iran sanctions strong and effective, rules out nuclear weapons

US President Donald Trump said that sanctions on Iran are strong and effective, and that the country will never acquire nuclear weapons.

Trump added that Iran was very close to obtaining a nuclear weapon and had long aspired to possess such arms, according to Al Arabiya.

His remarks came after the US Treasury Department added 27 Iranian airlines to its sanctions list and warned foreign financial institutions of penalties for dealing with Iran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that anyone dealing with Iranian airlines risks being cut off from the global financial system.
