Saudi Masam project clears 5,287 landmines and explosives in Yemen in one week

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s Masam project cleared 5,287 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices from various areas across Yemen during the first week of August 2026.

The haul included 24 anti-personnel mines, 69 anti-tank mines, 5,151 unexploded munitions, and 43 explosive devices.

In Marib province, the Masam team in Marib district removed 12 anti-personnel mines, 10 anti-tank mines, 4,403 unexploded munitions, and 29 explosive devices.

In Hadramout province, the team in Al-Mukalla district cleared 7 anti-personnel mines and 638 unexploded munitions. Clearance operations in Midi district, Hajjah province, resulted in the removal of 58 anti-tank mines and 59 unexploded munitions.

In Taiz province, the team cleared 5 anti-personnel mines, 17 unexploded munitions, and 14 explosive devices in Al-Mokha district; 1 anti-tank mine and 21 unexploded munitions in Dhubab district; 2 unexploded munitions in Al-Muzaffar district; and 5 unexploded munitions in Al-Qahirah district.

Operations also included the removal of unexploded munitions in Sheikh Othman district, Aden province; another in Qa’atabah district, Al-Dhale province; and 4 unexploded munitions in Al-Mudarabah district, Lahij province.

With these efforts, the total number of mines and explosives cleared by the Masam project since its launch has reached 583,513, after being randomly planted in various parts of Yemen.

Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continues its efforts to clear landmines in Yemen under the Masam project, enhancing civilian safety and helping Yemenis live safer, more dignified lives.
