Israeli media: Israel to reduce forces in south Lebanon after tunnel destruction

Israeli media reported on Thursday that the Israeli military is preparing to reduce its forces in southern Lebanon following the destruction of tunnels in the Ali Al-Taher area.

According to the broadcaster, as cited by Asharq, Israeli security authorities are considering establishing a new security zone in southern Lebanon, closer to the border and extending three to four kilometers from the Lebanese border.

The broadcaster added that the current proposal involves withdrawing from certain areas within what is known as the "yellow line," which includes the Israeli security zone inside Lebanese territory, such as areas north of the Litani River, including the Qalaat al-Shaqif area.

Instead, forces would pull back to positions closer to the border, where fortifications and military posts would be established inside Lebanese territory, in what is being called the "grey line."

The Israeli broadcaster clarified that the plan remains in its early stages and has not yet received political approval, noting that it faces several obstacles, most notably the issue of transferring control of the areas vacated by Israeli forces to the Lebanese army, as well as the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.
