LPG tanker hit by unknown projectiles while transiting Strait of Hormuz

An LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) tanker was struck by fragments from unidentified projectiles while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a delayed report received Monday by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The tanker’s captain confirmed that all crew members are safe and that there was no environmental impact.

The vessel is continuing its journey to its next port, while authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The nature of the projectiles involved has not yet been determined.

UKMTO has advised ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and to report any suspicious activity.

According to Reuters, the tanker’s captain reported that the vessel was hit by fragments from unidentified projectiles while crossing the strait, with no injuries among the crew or environmental damage recorded.

In a separate development, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Monday that it had intercepted and destroyed a US Army MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

The Revolutionary Guard stated that the drone was destroyed by fire from its “advanced aerospace defense system” and under the control of the “integrated air defense network” over the strait.
