US energy secretary: Iran's nuclear program was never for commercial use

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Iran resorted to lies and deception regarding its nuclear program, which was never intended for commercial purposes.

He added that Iran deliberately hid its nuclear program hundreds of feet underground, and that an agreement must be reached under which Iran abandons nuclear armament, according to Al Arabiya.

He continued that Iran has a nuclear weapons program and that the goal is to prevent it. He stressed that the US cannot allow Iran to remain a threat to global energy supplies, and while diplomacy is preferred, the US would destroy Iran's nuclear facilities if necessary, reaffirming a strong desire to end Iran's nuclear program through negotiations.
