Algerian president declares national mourning after deadly bus crash kills at least 25

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast across the country, after at least 25 people were killed and 44 others injured on Monday when a passenger bus veered off the road and overturned in the Berhamoun El Karma area on the outskirts of Boumerdes.

Algeria’s Civil Protection agency said the death toll could rise as rescue and evacuation operations to hospitals are still ongoing.

The agency added that significant human and material resources were mobilized to respond quickly to the victims, including two rescue trucks and 11 ambulances.

According to the Algerian News Agency, citing Civil Protection, the injured were transported to several hospitals in Boumerdes and Algiers, with Civil Protection and National People's Army teams participating in the response. The agency noted that the casualty figures remain provisional.
