Around 40 oil tankers transit Strait of Hormuz via southern route: Axios

Nearly 40 oil tankers transited to and from the Strait of Hormuz on Friday night, with approximately 16 million barrels of oil exiting the strait through the same route, according to Axios reporter Barak Ravid, citing three US officials.

The US officials, as quoted by Ravid, stated that the tanker movement took place via the southern channel near the Omani coast on Friday night, with around 16 million barrels of oil leaving the Strait of Hormuz through this route during that period.

In a related development, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the volume of oil and petroleum products flowing from the Arabian Gulf with US military assistance exceeded 15 million barrels last Tuesday.

Wright explained in a post on X that this amount is approaching the pre-war average of 20 million barrels per day.

The US energy secretary added: "Including volumes transported via pipelines, the total leaving the region approached 20 million barrels" on that day.

Wright also noted that the average flow through the Strait of Hormuz over the past seven days exceeded 8 million barrels per day.
