Colombian president declares state of emergency after 6.8-magnitude earthquake

Colombian President Abelardo de Espria has declared a national state of emergency following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country, leaving 111 people dead so far. Authorities expect the death toll to rise as rescue teams continue to clear debris.

In a televised address, President de Espria said the number of fatalities had reached 111, with 87 others injured and dozens of buildings collapsed.

Local authorities reported hundreds of injuries as the earthquake caused the collapse of numerous buildings. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the hardest-hit areas.
