Rouhani calls for referendum on Iran's stance toward world powers

Former Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has said that if Iran is to continue its confrontation with major world powers for another 20 years, the public should first be asked for their opinion.

Iranian media aired a new segment of video recordings from Rouhani's meeting with several governors, deputy governors, and district officials who served during his two terms in office. The meeting took place on August 31.

Rouhani stated: "If the people say they accept this, that is very good, and we will continue on this path. But if the people do not accept it and guide us toward another way, should we not listen?"

Rouhani emphasized that "everyone who holds any position in this country, at any level, has received their post as a trust from the people."
