Qatar condemns Iranian attack on Saudi tanker Seder, calls for reopening of Hormuz Strait

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Iran’s targeting of the Saudi oil tanker Seder, which resulted in fatalities, describing the incident as a blatant violation of international law.

The ministry said that Qatar strongly denounces the Islamic Republic of Iran’s attack on the Saudi tanker Seder as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which led to the deaths of crew members. Qatar considers the incident a flagrant breach of international law, maritime navigation freedoms, and a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The ministry reiterated Qatar’s firm rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure, calling for its unconditional reopening. It stressed that freedom of navigation in this vital waterway is a fundamental principle that cannot be compromised, warning that continued closure threatens the vital interests of regional countries and the global economy.

The ministry also emphasized the need to halt Iran’s unjustified attacks on the property of neighboring states, reaffirming Qatar’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures taken to protect its assets.
