Iraq in talks with US to resume Iranian flights on humanitarian grounds

The Iraqi government has announced direct talks with the United States to exempt certain Iraqi airports from measures imposed by the US Treasury Department on Iranian airline flights to airports in the region.

According to a statement from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, the government is holding direct discussions with the US side to secure exemptions for some Iraqi airports from these restrictions. This would allow the resumption of flights for humanitarian reasons, including medical treatment, education, religious visits, and civilian needs, according to the Waa Agency (WAA).

The Iraqi government is also working to ease tensions in the region, stressing that ongoing crises only complicate the situation. It called on all parties to engage in dialogue and negotiations to reach solutions that end the current crisis and conflicts, serving the interests of the region's countries and peoples.
