Hezbollah leader seeks return to 2006 era in Lebanon, analyst says

Political analyst Jad Yatim said that Hezbollah's Secretary-General Naim Qassem wants to take Lebanon back to the 2006 era, which Hezbollah itself disrupted. This, he noted, represents both a challenge and a sign of possible escalation by the group.

Speaking in a phone interview with Al Arabiya FM, Yatim added that regarding the US position and its willingness to engage with Hezbollah on this issue, there are signs of a US retreat, but only in relation to the handover of weapons—not negotiations—to avoid Hezbollah misunderstanding the message.

Yatim emphasized that any discussion with Hezbollah should be conducted through the Lebanese state, which would then inform the US about the handover of weapons. At that point, the US State Department would consider what is possible to discuss and on what basis.
