Iraqi analyst: Prime minister aims to centralize arms after armed cell dismantled

Political analyst Wathiq Al-Jabiri praised the Iraqi authorities for dismantling an armed cell that had been planning drone attacks.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM radio, Al-Jabiri said the operation demonstrates the Iraqi government's seriousness in maintaining security and preventing attacks on neighboring countries.

He added that the government, led by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, is also committed to ensuring that all weapons are under state control, and has been taking steps toward this goal for several months, in coordination with regional and international partners concerned with the issue.

Al-Jabiri noted that Iraq's challenging terrain, including vast desert areas, has prompted the government to deploy security forces and carry out preemptive operations and raids on suspected locations.

Earlier, government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi announced that Iraqi counterterrorism forces and intelligence agencies had successfully infiltrated and dismantled an armed network planning drone attacks on specific targets.
