Mokha port suspends all operations after Houthi missile attacks

Abdulmalik Al-Sharaabi, director of Yemen’s Mokha port, announced on Monday that the port has suspended all commercial and maritime operations after being hit by more than 25 missiles in recent Houthi attacks.

Speaking at a press conference, Al-Sharaabi said the strikes killed seven people and caused estimated losses of around $16 million.

He added that the missile attacks targeted the old pier, destroyed storage hangars, and caused severe damage to the port’s expansion dredger and its marine launch.

The Mokha port director warned of severe humanitarian and economic consequences from the port’s closure, noting that around 1,300 workers have lost their income due to the suspension of maritime activity.

On Sunday, the Yemeni government said the Houthis fired six ballistic missiles at Mokha port, killing at least four civilians and targeting civilian, economic, and maritime facilities.
