Yemeni prime minister: Houthi escalation threatens region beyond Yemen

Yemeni Prime Minister Shaye Mohsen Al-Zandani said the latest escalation by the Houthis "extends beyond the Yemeni arena," noting that it is linked to Iranian agendas that use Yemen's strategic location to threaten regional security and international navigation.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting today in the interim capital, Aden, Al-Zandani said the Houthi escalation is not a passing development or just another round of confrontation, but rather a broad and dangerous escalation that goes beyond Yemen and is connected to Iranian agendas using Yemen’s strategic position to threaten regional security and international shipping. He stressed that the government’s responsibility is to manage this phase with a state-minded approach, avoiding exaggeration or denial.

According to the Yemeni News Agency, Al-Zandani emphasized that the difficult field developments witnessed in recent days should not be seen as the end of the confrontation or a decisive turn in its course. He said battles are not measured by a single day’s outcome or a change in position, but by the state’s ability to reorganize its efforts, mobilize resources, support its forces, maintain institutional cohesion, and regain the initiative.

The Yemeni prime minister confirmed that the government is monitoring field developments, setting priorities, and taking necessary measures, stressing that security and military developments will not disrupt the functioning of state institutions.

The meeting discussed the progress of military operations on several fronts, the readiness of government forces, and the humanitarian impact of the escalation, including new waves of displacement, as well as measures related to services, health, supplies, and the economy.
