Arab League chief warns of new regional crisis, says two-state solution harder to achieve

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has warned of the risk of a new crisis erupting in the region if current conditions persist, stressing that military solutions cannot end the ongoing conflict. He also cautioned that the crisis is likely to continue.

In remarks to the press, Fahmy described Iran’s role in several Arab countries as "extremely negative" and called on Tehran to change its policies.

Fahmy emphasized the importance of the Arab League establishing "clear principles" to govern relations between Arab states and Iran.

Regarding Lebanon, the secretary-general noted that "Lebanon’s crisis is not limited to Hezbollah, but also involves the continued Israeli occupation."

On the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, Fahmy said that implementing a two-state solution "has become more difficult than ever before."

He added that while the Palestinians have adhered to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ongoing Israeli violations remain a major obstacle to its implementation on the ground.
