Yemen’s Ministry of Information has announced the launch of a government verification center, aiming to enhance media awareness, improve accuracy and reliability in both media and digital spaces, and counter disinformation, fake news, and fabricated content.

Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani said in an official statement that the center’s launch comes amid rapid information exchange and the evolution of digital deception tools, including content created or altered using artificial intelligence. He stressed the need for a professional reference point based on evidence, reliable sources, and modern verification tools.

Al-Eryani noted that the center will monitor and verify claims and information related to government institutions, the armed forces, and security services, as well as official documents, statements, and impersonated accounts and pages.

The minister explained that the center’s tasks also include verifying news, statements, photos, videos, documents, figures, and statistics, exposing fabricated or misleading content or material published out of context, and clarifying the evidence and sources behind its verification results.

Al-Eryani emphasized that the center will focus on verifying provable claims without evaluating opinions or positions. He stressed that combating disinformation requires documented facts and verifiable evidence, not counter-narratives. The center will rely on primary sources, official evidence, digital verification tools, and open-source research techniques, and will consult official sources, experts, and specialists as needed.

He also affirmed the center’s commitment to transparency in presenting information sources and verification methodology, correcting any errors in its published materials clearly, and publishing educational content to help the public recognize disinformation tactics, digital deception, and verify circulating content.

The minister called on media organizations, journalists, researchers, specialists, and the public to cooperate with the government verification center by submitting claims and materials requiring verification through its official platforms, and to benefit from the verification results it publishes, contributing to limiting the spread of disinformation and fostering a more reliable media and digital environment.
