UN Security Council referral of Iran nuclear file aims to address monitoring violations, analyst says

Political analyst Dr. Mohammed Al-Dosari explained the significance of referring Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council, highlighting how this move differs from previous decisions by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Speaking in an interview with Al-Ikhbariya Radio, Al-Dosari said the referral aims to prompt a decision regarding Iran’s violations of nuclear monitoring requirements and related issues.

He added that the referral is based on Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, which grants the authority to declare war and fully implement sanctions on Iran. However, attention is focused on Russia and Iran, as both hold permanent seats on the Security Council.

The IAEA Board of Governors recently voted to refer Iran to the UN Security Council due to its non-compliance with its nuclear file. This step is part of international efforts to pressure Iran and neutralize threats it poses to the region and international maritime navigation routes.
