US will engage only with Lebanon's legitimate government, says Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said his country will engage only with Lebanon's legitimate government, ruling out any cooperation with Hezbollah or Iran. His remarks came during discussions on US-Lebanese relations.

Rubio noted that the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, scheduled for next Tuesday at the White House, is expected to be productive for the future of bilateral ties.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun arrived in Washington yesterday for an official visit, during which he will meet Secretary of State Marco Rubio and several other US officials.

Senior Lebanese sources told Reuters that President Aoun plans to present the US administration with a written document outlining a proposed mechanism to dismantle Hezbollah's large military arsenal.
