Lebanese president vows Israel will not retain any Lebanese land

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that ongoing negotiations are making progress, stressing that any outcome would be better than a devastating war for Lebanon.

According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency on its official X account, Aoun told a visiting delegation from the Maronite Foundation for the Diaspora, led by Rose Choueiri, that Israeli attacks on Lebanon have decreased since the signing of the framework agreement. He noted this has positively impacted the return of Lebanese expatriates during the summer.

Aoun emphasized that Lebanon’s objectives enjoy broad domestic consensus, foremost among them the complete Israeli withdrawal, the return of prisoners, and the reconstruction of areas destroyed by war. He stated, “We will not allow Israel to remain on even an inch of our land, nor will we allow a single Israeli soldier to stay,” adding that facts have shown that reclaiming rights is not limited to military options.

The Lebanese president called for an end to wars waged in the name of the people of the south for objectives that do not serve Lebanon’s interests. He affirmed that his main goal is to rebuild the state and strengthen its institutions, despite opposition from those he described as seeking to obstruct this path.
