US Treasury removes Syria from state sponsors of terrorism list

The US Treasury Department announced on Thursday that Syria has been officially removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, following the completion of legal procedures and a congressional review with no objections raised.

The department, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control, confirmed that Syria is no longer subject to the provisions of the "terrorism government" regulations, including specific restrictions on financial and banking transactions.

The decision aligns with the notification sent by US President Donald Trump to Congress on July 8, which initiated the process of rescinding the designation.

The Treasury noted that the decision takes immediate effect and is part of the periodic regulatory updates conducted by the Office of Foreign Assets Control to reflect legal and procedural developments within the US administration.
