Nepal flood death toll rises to 1,454 in Bhotekoshi region

The death toll from devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa district, northern Nepal, has risen to 1,454, according to official Nepali data released on Monday.

Authorities reported that fatalities included 236 in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in East Nawalparasi, and 222 in West Nawalparasi. Two additional deaths were recorded among those receiving treatment in Kathmandu.

Ongoing efforts to identify victims and missing persons

Officials said that 1,334 bodies have been processed so far, and 3,391 DNA samples have been collected from victims and their families to aid identification. Data for 1,421 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the official website of the Nepal Police as part of efforts to notify relatives.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Police have deployed 7,975 personnel to affected areas to assist with rescue and search operations, distribute aid, and handle the remains of victims.

Searches are still underway for 4,718 people reported missing, while 1,283 individuals are currently staying in temporary shelters across the flood-hit regions.
