Trump's Iran strategy focuses on military pressure, economic squeeze: analyst

Nabil Al-Atoum, director of the Iranian Studies Program, said that US President Donald Trump has adopted effective strategies against Iran.

Speaking to Al Arabiya FM, Al-Atoum explained that these strategies include a policy of "wait and attrition" by increasing economic pressure on Tehran, along with "gradual military pressure" through targeted strikes to weaken Iran. He added that the "economic strangulation" strategy involves tightening restrictions on oil exports, ports, and frozen assets to reduce the regime's ability to finance conflict.

Al-Atoum noted that Iran is unlikely to abandon its deterrence tools, including the production of missiles and drones, which it continues to expand. He said Iran is also circumventing international sanctions by using alternative routes, with its main strategy focused on "preserving the survival of the Iranian regime."

It is worth noting that the 60-day deadline set for negotiations between the United States and Iran has expired, with none of the anticipated outcomes achieved so far.
