UK urges protection of civilians in occupied Palestinian territories

The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the escalation of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories, including attacks carried out by Israeli settlers on Palestinian villages and communities, which have resulted in fatalities and the burning of two mosques in the villages of Qusra and Kur.

In a statement, UK Minister for the Middle East Stephen Doughty emphasized the need to protect civilians, uphold international law, and hold perpetrators of violence accountable. He called on the Israeli government to protect Palestinians in the occupied territories and to take effective measures to prevent settler violence and prosecute those responsible.

The UK also condemned threats to expand settlements and illegal outposts in response to the violence, reiterating that settlements are illegal under international law, undermine the possibility of a two-state solution, and contribute to insecurity for both Palestinians and Israelis. The UK reaffirmed its commitment to achieving a negotiated two-state solution that ensures Israel's security alongside the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, delivering lasting peace and security.
