US hints nuclear deal with Iran may await new leadership

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has said that reaching a new nuclear agreement with Iran may not be possible in the near future, suggesting that such a deal might require waiting for a new Iranian administration to take power in Tehran.

Wright accused the current Iranian leadership of seeking to destabilize the region, stressing that the US naval presence is intended to ensure the security of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. He also agreed with President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance in describing the current situation between Washington and Tehran as a "conflict."

In the same context, the secretary stated that the Trump administration intends to continue pressuring the Iranian regime through economic sanctions, as well as working to limit its ability to export oil, as part of Washington's efforts to weaken the Iranian government.
