Bangkok declared disaster zone as floods hit Thai capital

Bangkok's mayor declared the Thai capital a disaster zone on Saturday after residents woke to widespread flooding that submerged several roads, with forecasts predicting more rain.

The city has experienced continuous rainfall for over 24 hours, with some areas receiving more than 150 millimeters, according to Reuters. The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rain at the start of the week.

Authorities have issued an emergency warning for residents living near canals, urging them to move their belongings to higher ground.
