Iran’s nuclear stance unlikely to shift despite leadership changes, expert says

Iran and Central Asia affairs expert Masoud Al-Fak has said that changes in Tehran’s leadership will not alter Iran’s stance on its nuclear file.

Speaking in an interview broadcast on Al-Hadath, Al-Fak added that Iran could even come under a more hardline administration, and there are currently no signs of a new government emerging in Tehran.

He explained that Iran’s position on the nuclear issue is part of the country’s sovereign choices and is not determined by the president or any particular administration. As a result, the current situation remains a real dilemma, even as senior officials acknowledge their concerns.

Al-Fak also noted that “empty stomachs will not listen to statements, expressions of concern, or advice,” and that Iran is likely to maintain its security-focused approach to public demands. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the Iranian constitution does allow for peaceful protest demonstrations.
