Pentagon urges US defense firms to speed up weapons production

The US Department of Defense has asked American defense manufacturers to accelerate the production and delivery of weapons and ammunition, as mounting pressure is placed on US military stockpiles.

According to The Washington Post, citing a Pentagon memo, the department has instructed defense companies to expedite the manufacturing and delivery of arms and munitions.

The US Deputy Secretary of Defense informed companies they have 21 days to submit plans outlining measures to speed up the delivery of contracted weapons.

These directives come as recent intelligence and military reports reveal that the United States has used a significant portion of its military stockpile during the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The reports indicate that consumption of some interceptor systems has reached about 80 percent of US reserves, while usage of long-range precision missiles has reached around 50 percent.

This depletion is putting increasing pressure on the US administration, which is seeking to rebuild its military stockpiles more quickly as the conflict with Iran continues. The declining reserves are also quietly pushing Washington to accelerate diplomatic efforts.
