EU chief: Working to rebuild Syria and ensure safe refugee return

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is actively engaged in Syria’s reconstruction, recovery, and the safe, voluntary return of refugees.

She noted that the European Union remains a reliable partner for a peaceful, stable, and inclusive transition in Syria.

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar, in an address to the United Nations General Assembly, stated that Syria has begun its recovery after years of conflict, highlighting the return of more than 3.5 million displaced people and refugees to the country.

Al-Shar explained that the Syrian government has launched a transitional justice process and started consolidating arms and unifying the military as part of efforts to strengthen internal stability.
