Iraq surpasses 4 million barrels per day in oil exports, minister says

Iraq’s Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair announced that the country has succeeded in exporting more than 4 million barrels of oil per day. He noted that production of petroleum derivatives has now reached 37 million liters daily, an increase of 4 million liters to meet growing demand that has led to a fuel crisis.

Speaking during the nineteenth session of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, chaired by Haibat Al-Halbousi and attended by 232 members, the minister said Iraq is facing difficulties importing gasoline due to the impact of ongoing conflicts, resulting in a gap between production and consumption.

Khudair stated that at least 5 million liters of gasoline per day are needed to cover the shortfall, emphasizing that the solution lies in importing additional shipments of gasoline this year. The ministry is working on this by coordinating with relevant parties in several countries, especially after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The minister added that the ministry continues its efforts to attract investment companies to overcome obstacles and resolve the fuel crisis. He also stressed the importance of completing maintenance of the FCC unit in Basra and continuing gasoline imports to strengthen strategic reserves.
