Pakistan and Iran foreign ministers discuss bilateral ties at SCO summit

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit held Tuesday in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

According to an official statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on X, the two ministers held cordial talks, exchanging views on bilateral relations and regional developments, and emphasized the importance of continued communication and consultation between their countries.

The Pakistani minister stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the primary means to promote peace and stability in the region.

Ishaq Dar also stated that sincere implementation by both parties to the conflict, the United States and Iran, of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” signed in June 2026, is the only way forward.

The meeting took place as tensions between Washington and Tehran flared again after a month of calm, with the US increasing pressure by declaring an “economic war” on Tehran. The US president yesterday pledged to continue striking Iran forcefully, describing it as a “failed state.”

Meanwhile, US forces announced an attack targeting “two Iranian missile launch platforms on Larak Island” in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran responded with missile and drone strikes on American targets in the region.
