Arab League condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Yemen

The Arab League has warned that continued attacks by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and escalating military operations within Yemen undermine prospects for de-escalation and a political settlement, stressing that these developments threaten the security and stability of the region.

In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy condemned the attacks targeting the Najran region in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in injuries among civilians, as well as strikes on sites and units belonging to Yemeni government forces in Marib and Hadramout, which caused deaths and injuries.

Fahmy said: "Targeting Saudi territory and endangering civilian lives, alongside ongoing attacks and military escalation within Yemen, represents a highly dangerous course that threatens regional security and stability and undermines opportunities for de-escalation and a political settlement."

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the Arab League's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing its support in facing any aggression targeting the Kingdom's security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He called for an end to Houthi militia attacks and the ongoing escalation in Yemen, stressing that the current stage requires refraining from any actions that could widen the conflict, and a return to the political process to safeguard Saudi security, as well as Yemen's stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
