Iraqi prime minister bans use of Iraqi territory to threaten neighbors

Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, chaired an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss regional security developments, emphasizing the need to prevent any violations or threats originating from Iraqi territory against neighboring states.

During the meeting, Al-Zaidi called for the formation of a joint security committee to address security challenges, instructing relevant authorities to establish strict measures to prevent such incidents from recurring or any potential breaches.

The prime minister also directed security agencies to enforce the law, strengthen security and stability, and fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty and upholding the principles of good neighborliness.

The meeting affirmed the readiness of the armed forces to thwart any attempts targeting neighboring countries within the regional context, reiterating Iraq’s firm commitment not to allow its territory to be used as a base or corridor for attacks against brotherly and friendly nations, in line with its responsibilities to protect national sovereignty and respect the principles of good neighborliness and international law.
