Lebanon reports progress in three tracks during Rome talks with Israel

Lebanese presidential sources revealed that the second round of negotiations with Israel, held Wednesday in Rome under US mediation, saw progress on all three proposed tracks. The sources noted that the border file made the most headway, with discussions starting from the international boundaries.

The sources added that the political track also saw significant progress, particularly regarding the third party that would be responsible for verifying and monitoring the Lebanese army’s activities, according to Asharq.

They explained that during the second session in the afternoon, the US side asked both delegations to pause negotiations for the day and likely resume on Thursday, in order to consult with countries that could serve as monitors for the Lebanese army’s operations and the implementation of any agreement.

The Lebanese sources stressed that negotiations remain the only way to convey Lebanon’s demands and voice, and to reduce the intensity and spread of shelling.

The sources also stated that Lebanon reiterates in every session its proposal to re-establish a ceasefire for eight weeks, or 60 days.
