Brazil recalls ambassador to Argentina over Milei's remarks

Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Argentina for consultations following "offensive remarks" made by Argentine President Javier Milei about his Brazilian counterpart, leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, according to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.

Milei attended a campaign event for Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former right-wing Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, ahead of the October elections. During the event, the Argentine president used derogatory language to refer to President Lula and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, without mentioning them by name.

In response to these comments, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira decided to recall the ambassador from Buenos Aires.

These remarks come after Javier Milei accused the governments of Brazil and Mexico, as well as the US Democratic Party, of funding an "anti-Argentina campaign," apparently referring to criticism directed at the country and its national football team during the World Cup.
