Iran: No temporary ceasefire without Hormuz Strait demands, says Araqchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said today that his country will not accept a temporary ceasefire unless its demands concerning the Strait of Hormuz are met.

According to Tasnim News Agency, Araqchi, during a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Ministers in Kyrgyzstan, reiterated that a temporary ceasefire would not be considered unless Iran's demands over the Strait of Hormuz are addressed. He stressed that the current dispute between Tehran and Washington is not due to a lack of mediators, noting that Pakistan and Qatar continue to play their roles.

The Pakistani foreign minister emphasized the need to build on the progress achieved under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, stating that disputes can only be resolved through sustained dialogue and warning of those seeking to undermine stability.

Separately, Araqchi wrote on his X account that individuals involved in the US administration are completely ignoring reality and do not seem to be focused except on the 2028 elections.
