Former Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has said that the West Bank has been under declared military rule since 1967, and that Israel is now carrying out a silent, gradual annexation of its various areas.

Speaking to Sputnik Radio, Shtayyeh explained that there are more than 881,000 settlers in the West Bank, making up 26 percent of its total population and controlling over 70 percent of its land.

He added that Israel had a plan to forcibly displace Palestinians ready for implementation in November 2023, but Egypt and Jordan rejected it. He noted that, before the events of October, Palestinians outnumbered Israelis demographically, making the issue of displacement both a security and economic concern.

Shtayyeh continued that Israel has undermined the political process with the Palestinian leadership, failing to respect any of the agreements with the Palestinians, particularly those related to security, finance, economy, and geography.
