Obama backs Abdul El-Sayed ahead of Michigan Senate race

Former US President Barack Obama made phone calls on Friday to Abdul El-Sayed, known as "Abdul El-Sayed," and Representative Haley Stevens, commending their efforts to unify Michigan Democrats following a heated primary election.

Obama offered early support for El-Sayed's Senate campaign, according to Politico magazine, after his victory in the Democratic primary ahead of the upcoming midterm congressional elections in November.

A source familiar with the matter told the magazine that Obama's call to El-Sayed was a clear sign of his early backing.

A spokesperson for El-Sayed's campaign confirmed that the former president and El-Sayed had a friendly and encouraging conversation, expressing their eagerness to work together to unite Democrats and secure victory in November.

This support comes as part of the campaign's efforts to heal divisions after a fiercely contested primary.

Similarly, former Vice President Kamala Harris, along with prominent Democrats such as Pete Buttigieg and Senator Mark Kelly, made similar calls to support party unity in Michigan.

Obama also called Stevens after the primary, expressing his appreciation for her focus on uniting Democrats to win in November.

Stevens reportedly asked Obama to join the Democrats' campaign in Michigan, citing her previous work with him on the US auto industry rescue team.
