US closely coordinating with GCC; southern Hormuz passage open, says Rubio

US Senator Marco Rubio said that Washington is closely coordinating with Gulf Cooperation Council countries, noting that the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz remains open.

Rubio added that the actions of the Houthis in Yemen pose a serious problem, and that all countries in the region face threats from Iran's proxies. He stated there is consensus that Iran's activities in the region are malign, and that there is international support for US sanctions on Iran, according to Al Arabiya.

He continued that US President Donald Trump has several options available, including military ones. Rubio noted that reaching an agreement with Iran will require hard work over time, and affirmed that the US will continue to defend the straits and ensure they remain open.
