Egyptian lawyer arrested for allegedly killing and dismembering mother in Alexandria

Egyptian security forces have uncovered the circumstances behind the discovery of body parts belonging to an elderly woman inside an apartment in the Sidi Bishr Qebly area of Alexandria. The incident came to light after residents reported a foul odor emanating from the building, leading to the discovery. The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a well-known lawyer accused of killing her mother and mutilating the body.

According to the Ministry of Interior, on the 20th of this month, the Montazah First Police Department received a report from residents of a building in Sidi Bishr Qebly about a strong, unpleasant smell coming from the apartment where lawyer "S.A." lived with her 70-year-old mother.

After raiding the apartment, security forces found scattered body parts belonging to the elderly woman. The lawyer, known for her advocacy for women's rights and combating harassment, was apprehended on suspicion of killing her mother and mutilating the body inside the apartment.

The Ministry of Interior stated that during questioning, the suspect admitted that a heated argument broke out between her and her mother on the 17th of this month due to longstanding family disputes and alleged mistreatment by her mother. The confrontation escalated, leading her to assault and then strangle her mother, resulting in her death.

According to her confession, she then dismembered the body using a "bladed weapon" over the course of two days before fleeing the apartment to avoid detection.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses and colleagues of the suspect reported that she had been experiencing severe psychological distress over the past three years, especially after the death of her youngest daughter. They confirmed she suffered from depression and had attempted suicide multiple times.
